Golden Pie Crust with a Dollop of Schlag is the whimsical name for these earrings which feature Baroque Pearls that float from hand fabricated crinkled border posts with 24K gold heat applied to the oxidized sterling silver with the Keum-boo process. The organic flow of pearls reminds me of whipped cream (dollop of shlag) contrasting with the golden crusts of the posts that cover the earlobe with a curving hug. These are part of a 2024 series of modern pearl jewelry I created to emphasize the natural freshwater pearl’s organic form with contrasting organic flowing metalwork. Using a tube extruder to create crinkled texture, these pieces are experiments in an imperfect twisting emotional journey.
