Spring Forward

Tonight we move the clocks forward and even though it is snowing this morning it feels like warmer weather will be here soon. I’ve been hard at work on my spring collection of one of a kind pieces featuring unique gemstones including dendritic quartz, turquoise, montana agate, laboradite, tourmaline and opal. I’m kicking off the collection with the Spring Forward Earrings today and I plan to release the work as it is completed. The Montana Agate Pendant features an open wire form surrounding a dramatic translucent stone that reminds me of a setting sun.

Also in the studio I have been working on making trimetal (silver, copper and brass) to use in my newest version of the crinkled hoops. I twist together varying sized wires of the metals by securing it in a vise and turning them with a large plier. After the wires are tightly twisted I solder them together and press them through the rolling mill. The result is metal with stripes that are further emphasized with patina. This is a process called lamination and it’s labor intensive, but very fun to do. Check out the results in the newest crinkled hoop pictured below.

Tomorrow is Oscar night and I love watching the jewelry on the runway. Who is your pick for best picture?
