Oxidized Silver

My favorite finish to a piece of silver jewelry is oxidizing with liver of sulphur. It’s smelly, it’s messy but it has the richest patina of all (in my opinion). One of the things I like best about this finish is the darkened silver can be very shiny but it won’t tarnish over time. I find tarnish an annoying aspect of shiny silver. When I texture and oxidize the finish of the piece looks fantastic and it stays that way. I also love the contrast of oxidized silver with gold accents such as Keumboo or gold chain, wires or findings. Oxidizing looks fantastic with any texture in the jewelry either by emphasizing depth or by bringing a sheen in the metal. If you visit my studio I guarantee you will experience the telltale rotten eggs like smell that is the “delightful bouquet” of liver of sulphur.
